This day trip includes a variety of experiences: a guided walk in the Azzadene river valley, a visit to the local village and mill, local bread-making, a tasty Berber lunch in one of the most dramatic settings in the High Atlas, and a chance to sit back and simply relax soaking up the breathtaking views!

Journey to Dar Tassa & Toubkal National Park
Leaving the walls of the ‘Red City’ you will travel up into the high valleys of the High Atlas Mountains and Toubkal National Park. En route to the Atlas you’ll pass through the busy little town of Asni which is a buzz of activity as local Berbers ply to sell their produce and goods.
The final stretch of the journey to Dar Tassa is off-road on a rough track which twists and turns up through the fertile Azzadene Valley for 6 km.
Walk in the Azzadene Valley
Before lunch you’ll enjoy the first of two optional walks. This morning you’ll explore the Azzadene Valley, walking down through Tassa Ouirgane village to the river, learning about the local agriculture and typical village life in a community of only 40 or so families. Lunch is a leisurely affair, usually taken on the terrace of Dar Tassa, enjoying a home-cooked three course meal of Moroccan salad, couscous with lamb or perhaps a tasty Berber tagine, fresh seasonal fruits and tea.
Walk in Takherkhort Reserve / Optional Mule Trek
After lunch you’ll enjoy another walk exploring the Takherkhort Reserve (1 hour) above Dar Tassa. Alternatively hire a mule (additional cost) and enjoy a fun 2 hour mule trek following local trails and searching for Barbary sheep or one of the 150 species of birds native to the area.
Back at Dar Tassa you’ll end your visit with a presentation of how to make fresh Berber bread al fresco and have chance to sample locally produced organic olive oil, wild thyme and lavender plus yummy organic honey. There’s lots of opportunity for taking photos on this trip, so don’t forget your camera!
